A new edition of notebooks from Hobonichi for 2023 with a cover illustrated with a botanical drawing by Dr. Tomitaro Makino.
Yamazakura is an illustration made by prominent botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino depicting the Japanese cherry. Tomitaro Makino is a pioneer of Japanese botany who named and described more than 2,500 plant species. His most important work is Natural History of Japanese Plants with Illustrations, in which the botanist documented and illustrated 50,000 plant species. The first illustration in this collection is actually Yamazakura. The extremely detailed drawing of the ball cherry tree was created through careful observation, knowledge and experience. The intricate illustration was created using magnifying glasses to depict the plant's structure as accurately as possible.
Plain Yamazakura notebook has 288 pages of extremely thin Japanese Tomoe River paper. The pages are printed in a grid pattern with 3.7mm spacing. The notebook has a grid in four colors: red, blue, green and purple.
Tomoe River paper, thanks to its properties, has been appreciated by fountain pen users, because despite its grammage (52g/m2) the ink does not run through to the other side.
The notebook has a hard paper cover with a reinforced spine, so it always unfolds flat, providing a high level of writing comfort.
