Koshino is an illustration made in 1901 by prominent botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino depicting an insectivorous plant, grow on the moist rocks of mountains in the northern Kanto region. The illustration was done in sumi ink and watercolor.
Tomitaro Makino is a pioneer of Japanese botany who named and described more than 2,500 plant species. His most important work is Natural History of Japanese Plants with Illustrations, published in 1900, in which the botanist documented and illustrated 50,000 plant species. The extremely detailed drawings were created through his keen observation, knowledge and experience.
Koshino's illustration was precisely printed on a linen beige cover, perfectly reflecting the color of the ink. The cover is kept in a minimalist form. On the back it has an additional pocket in which we can store notes, bills or sticker sheets, as well as a holder to which we can attach a pen by its cap. The cover has two tabs, one in purple and the other in green, the colors of which refer to the color of the stem and koshino flower. Also printed on the cover is the Latin name of the koshino, or Pinguicula ramosa.
