Throughout its 23 years of existence, the Hobonichi brand has been constantly changing to meet the needs of its users, which has earned it the appreciation of millions of people around the world. In 2024, the Hobonichi HON A5 calendar in English joins the regular collection! What sets it apart from the Hobonichi Cousin calendar is the hard cover, which will make our calendar even more durable.
The Hobonichi HON calendar in A6 size includes:
-an annual calendar for 2024 and 2025,
-Monthly index and monthly calendar covering 16 months from December 2024 to March 2025,
-a weekly vertical calendar with hourly layout that covers the months from December 2023 to December 2024,
-a daily calendar with hourly layout.
-a daily calendar covering the months of January to December 2024.
Each page of the daily calendar includes a to-do list, daily hourly schedule, and space for long notes! The pages are printed in a fine 3.7-millimetre grid in 12 colours, with one colour per month of the year. At the bottom of each page you will find an inspirational quote, as well as a small monthly calendar.
In addition to the calendars, the Hobonichi Techo includes:
-8 pages for notes,
-a page for storing important contacts, an international size chart,
-A list where we can list 100 things to do this year, or 100 books we want to read - it's all up to you!
As every year, the supplementary pages have been updated and in 2024 they will also include:
-an interview with yourself! Complete this page to look inside yourself,
- four recipes.
-four recipes for seasonal sweets created by Shiho Nakashima,
-exercises to help us take care of our eye hygiene!
The 2024 edition of Hobonichi's calendars is the first edition to be created using the new Tomoe River S paper.
In 2023, the machines producing the world's thinnest paper were shut down and production was taken over by Sanzen Paper Manufacturing, which has been producing paper since 1948. This company set itself the goal of replicating the iconic Tomoe River paper as perfectly as possible, but it is impossible for the new machines to produce an identical product. The new Tomoe River S paper has retained all the features that made Tomoe River paper unique, but is enhanced with additional properties.
Tomoe River S paper is:
-more resistant to translucency,
-lighter, while maintaining the same thickness,
-smoother.
Because the paper used for Hobonichi is so thin, the calendar itself remains small in size and weight, despite the large number of pages. Among the details that make this one of the best-designed calendars in the world is the way it is stitched, which allows it to be opened flat at any time without being held down. And the rounded corners minimise the risk of bending the pages when carried loosely in a bag or backpack.
Each Hobonichi Techo calendar has its own serial number, giving each notebook an individual touch.
The cover of the Hobonichi Hon calendar is decorated with Yamazakura, which is an illustration by the eminent botanist Dr Tomitaro Makino depicting the sawtooth cherry commonly known as the Japanese cherry. Tomitaro Makino is a pioneer of Japanese botany who named and described more than 2,500 plant species. His most important work is The Natural History of Japanese Plants with Illustrations, published in 1900, in which the botanist documented and illustrated 50,000 plant species. The first illustration in this collection is actually by Yamazakura. The extraordinarily detailed drawing of the ball cherry was created through careful observation, knowledge and experience. The intricate illustration was drawn with magnifying glasses to depict the plant's structure as accurately as possible.
Under the illustration we can see the full Latin species name of the Japanese cherry tree "PRUNUS PSEUDO - CERASUS, Lindl., α. SPONTANEA, Maxim', as well as the Japanese name of the plant 'yamazakura' written in Japanese syllabary from right to left.
The calendar comes with two tabs - one in navy blue and the other in beige. Also included is a ruler fitted with a pen holder!
The calendar is also available with a pen holder.
