The Great Wave in Kanagawa is a woodcut made using the ukiyo-e technique by the Japanese artist Hokusai, who created in the 18th century. The work comes from the series of 36 views of Mount Fuji, thanks to which the artist gained fame in Japan and around the world. Mount Fuji in the background is considered sacred in Japan and a symbol of national identity.
